About
A History
We, Stacy Doller and Cliff Pearson, were already podcasting and broadcasting progressive rock music independently, but we shared a vision of something greater and thus Progzilla Radio was born.
Progzilla Radio is a UK-based internet radio station specializing in playing progressive rock music from around the world and across the decades.
The original idea was simple: to host a number of podcasts under the Progzilla name, a brand Cliff had created. However, as we delved deeper into this project, our ambitions grew. The vision morphed into creating the UK’s first and only dedicated progressive music radio station.
To bring this vision to life, we reached out to like-minded individuals, and many passionate volunteers joined our cause. One of the early and crucial additions to our management team was Emma Roebuck, who joined us as we prepared to launch the station.
Our first broadcast was on March 2nd, 2015. Although we’re based in the UK, our station boasts a diverse team of presenters, including several from the United States. This international mix continues to evolve and enrich our programming. While progressive rock remains the backbone of our station, each presenter brings their unique taste, contributing music from any genre they believe deserves attention.
At our core, we are all music fans, driven by a shared passion to showcase music overlooked by mainstream broadcasting platforms. We also take pride in being a platform where new and emerging artists can have their work heard.
In addition to our broadcasts, we actively work with concert and festival promoters to help advertise and promote their events. For instance, in 2024, we helped organize the two-day Soundle music event at The Key Theatre in Peterborough.
Currently, Progzilla Radio features a roster of 35 presenters. We fondly remember former presenters, especially the late Geoff Banks, a rock journalist and a staunch advocate for progressive rock music during times when it faced widespread media ridicule.
Our shows are a mix of weekly, fortnightly, and monthly broadcasts, with scheduled repeats to accommodate global time differences. Every show is archived on the Progzilla website, allowing listeners to stream or download podcasts at their convenience.
Between these scheduled shows, our in-house Auto-DJ function ensures that music is broadcast 24/7. In 2020, we made a significant investment in new computer hardware to increase our station’s capacity, allowing us to continue growing and expanding.
We also revisited our original ethos by providing a platform for ad-hoc or regular podcasts from guest contributors. The management team evolved over time. Mike Whitfield joined me, Cliff, and Emma in November 2020. After Emma resigned in 2022, Bo Hansen stepped in, and we rebranded ourselves as the “manglement team.”
As of August 2024, our team consists of me (Stacy Doller), Cliff Pearson, Bo Hansen, and Mike Whitfield. In March 2023, we established a partnership with Prog Magazine, promoting and playing the bands and artists featured in their monthly “Limelight” and “All Around The World” features. This collaboration has been an exciting opportunity to spotlight exceptional talent.
June 2024 marked a significant upgrade for us as we introduced a new broadcasting platform with multi-channel broadcasting capabilities, further enhancing our service.
